Installing AKR Rewind on Windows is designed to be as simple and quick as possible. You don't need administrator privileges to install the software on your computer. Follow this step-by-step guide to set up the application in just a few minutes and start recording your games. Just make sure your system meets the basic requirements before running the installer.

Download the installation file
Visit the official page to download the AKR Rewind version 1.2.0 executable for Windows. The file is small and requires no third-party software or additional components to run.
Launching the installer without privileges
Double-click the downloaded executable file to launch the installation wizard. The application installs directly into your Windows user directory, eliminating the need for an administrator password.
Selecting Backup Directories
Choose the location on your hard drive where you want to store your temporary and final video recordings. We recommend selecting a fast SSD to ensure smooth write speeds at a bitrate of ~120k.
Initial Setup of Keyboard and Controller Shortcuts
When you launch the app for the first time, a quick setup screen will prompt you to assign your capture keys. You can now map a key on your keyboard or a button on your controller using the XInput protocol.
Enabling the HDR Profile (Optional)
If you're using a display that supports HDR or Dolby Vision, enable the corresponding option in the Display Settings tab. This will allow AKR Rewind to automatically adjust color management starting with your first recording.
Finalizing and Testing the First Music Video
Launch your favorite game on Windows, then use the configured shortcut to verify that recording is working properly. You can open the AKR Rewind interface to check if your first clip is in the library.
